09.02UK Pay as you go iPhone 3G announced by Apple
Apple has announced that the iPhone 3G is set to be released on a pay as you go basis.
The new option is surely not going to be very popular, with the £349.99 price tag making it the least cheap iPhone so far. On top of the huge initial outlay, the pay as you go iPhone users will have to commit to topping up by at least £10 every single month.
O2 will continue to be the only sellers of the pay as you go iPhone 3G, which becomes available to the public on September 16th in Carphone Warehouse and Apple stores.
The cheapest iPhone 3G pay as you go is the 8GB version at £349.99, whilst the 16GB iPhone 3G pay as you go costs £399.99.
These deal include a year of unlimited internet access, using O2’s mobile internet or local wi-fi. After a year, users will have to pay £10 a month extra to continue using the unlimited internet access.
Whilst the pay as you go iPhone 3G does not look like such a good deal, a contract user of the ‘free’ iPhone will be playing £810 over the course of 18 months, whilst a pay as you go user could end up spending £589.99.
